About Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church

This beautiful and historic country church had it's start in 1872 and was originally known as Little River Meeting House.  It was organized by Elder Jacob Young whom was it's first preacher.

1872-2018  On the 13th day of April, 1872, James Gibbs, Sr., whose son served as pastor for 35 years, donated 4 acres of land to the church for the sum of $1.00.  The first church was a log building, which stood near the present church.  In 1886, the present church was constructed of timber sawn at Whiddon Mill, which was owned by J.W. Whiddon, a charter member.

On December 14, 1901, the name of the church was changed from Little River Meeting House to Hickory Springs. The church participated in an annual meeting of Brushy Creek Church in 1901 and as a result, the Brushy Creek Union was formed.

In 1957, the church added a brick annex to the church for Bible study rooms and a fellowship hall.  In 1967, the church built a brick parsonage, less than one mile from the church building.  In February 1981, the church completed payments on the parsonage.

During August 1973, stained-glass windows replaced the original glass windows.  These windows were donated in memory of/or in honor of various church members or family members.

During the early 1980's, improvements including central heating and cooling, a deep well and carpet in the Bible study rooms.  In 1986, wrought iron handrails replaced pipe rails at the entrance to the church.  In 1995, a major renovation of the kitchen, bathrooms and fellowship hall was completed.  A security system was added to protect church property.

In 1996, the Bible study rooms were repainted and recarpeted, with a new hanging light fixture added to the front entrance of the church.  In 1998, Wes Ross, as an Eagle Scout project, waterproofed the handicap ramp and planted shrubs on the west side of the church.  During the year 2000, refinishing of the pews and pulpit furnishings was completed.

In October 2007, King's Construction installed white vinyl siding over the exterior of the brick annex, giving the church a more uniform look.

  • The church meets every Sunday for Bible study and morning worship.  On Wednesday nights we meet for Bible study/prayer meeting and PBYF for the youth.  All members and others are encouraged to come

Our Beautiful Sanctuary!

Our forefathers who built this little church certainly were proud of their craftsmanship.  Without question, Hickory Springs Church with it's all wood construction and beautiful stained glass windows, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and oldest churches in Georgia.  Hickory Springs, a wonderful place to worship Jesus!

Articles of Faith

We believe in one true and living God:  The Father, Son and Holy Spirit:  that these three are One, and are harmoniously equal in infinite power, wisdom, justice, holiness, mercy, love and truth. (1 Jn 5:7)

We believe that God created man good, able to stand but liable to fall, and that man fell from his pure estate and brought himself under condemnation and death, and that man is wholly unable to deliver himself from this condition. (1 Cor.14:22, Rom.3:10, Jn.6:44  Read the description of the unregenerate man;  (Rom.3: 10-20, 1 Cor. 2:14)

We believe that God chose a people unto salvation or eternal life and that this choice was eternal, particular, and unconditional. (Eph. 1:4-5, Jn. 10:27-29, Jn. 6:39-44, 11Tim. 1-9)

We believe that God was in Christ and that by the sacrifice of Jesus, all whom God chose unto salvation were forever redeemed from the curse of the law and made righteous in Him.  (Heb. 2:13-15, Eph. 1:6, Col. 2:10, Rom. 8:29)

We believe that all who were redeemed by the Son will in time be effectually called by the Holy Spirit, "Born Again", and made partakers of the Divine nature.  (jn. 6:37, Eph. 2:1, 1 Cor. 6:14)

We believe that all who were regenerated (effectually called) will be finally saved.  Not one can be finally lost.  (Jn.10: 28-29, Psalm 37:28)

We believe that the bodies of all men will be resurrected from the grave and that the joys of the righteous will be eternal and that the punishment of the wicked everlasting. (Jn. 5:28-29)

We believe that all who are called by God are under obligation to do good works and that in keeping of His commandments there is great reward. (Eph. 2:10)

We believe that Baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances of the Church and that believers are the only proper subjects for Baptism and that immersion is the only mode, and that none except those who have been regularly baptized are admitted in the Communion Service, and that the washing of the saints' feet is an example of love and humility which should be practiced by the members of our church.  (Rom. 6:4,  Col. 2:12,  1Cor. 11:24-29, Acts 8: 26-38,  Jn. 12: 1-17)

We believe that the Church is the highest ecclesiastical authority on earth, subject alone unto God for all her acts and that her form of government is congregational, each member having equal voice in all her acts. (Col. 1:18)
We believe the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments (of which we consider the King James Translation to be the best) to be the inspired word of God, and that they alone are to govern God's people both in faith and practice. (11 Tim. 3: 16-17)
